Adventure Island on both sides of Southend-On-Sea’s world famous longest pleasure pier is the UK’s Number 1 Free Admission Fun Park. And hear your little pirates shout “Arrr!” on the Jumping Jolly Rogers, or the twelve other rides especially for little ones. One of the oldest and most popular attractions at Adventure Island, The Lighthouse Slip, re-opened following a major facelift.
The traditional, spiral slide stands 50 feet (15 metres) tall and is more than 70 years old. After two months of painstaking renovation, the slide has been returned to its original 1940’s appearance.
The Lighthouse Slip was disassembled by specialist ride restorer’s ARM Ltd. The Copthorne, West Sussex-based firm then gradually stripped the landmark structure back to its aluminium framework, before being carefully rebuilding it according to original Forties drawings, under the supervision of Richard James Associates, a Government-registered independent safety inspection company located in Cheshire.
The renovation was completed with an all over repaint, using a high-tech system of products that will give the Lighthouse Slip another 30 years protection from the elements.
Adventure Island Executive Chairman Philip Miller says: “It is our policy at Adventure Island to continually keep improving our existing attractions and rides to ensure that all of our equipment is always in a first class condition. The Lighthouse Slip is undoubtedly one of our most popular attractions and has been enjoyed by all ages for more than 60 years. Thanks to this £100,000 refurbishment, visitors to the UK’s Number 1 Free Admission Fun Park can enjoy it for decades to come.”
