Please note there have been a large number of caravans stolen over the last month within the districts of Castle Point and Rochford.

If you own a caravan please review it's security and consider taking action to prevent it being stolen by wheel clamps, locking the tow hook and consider CCTV covering where it is parked.

If you have information in relation to thefts of caravans or any other crime please call 101, or you can report on-line via the Essex Police website, or you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Slavery comes in many forms and is much more prevalent than you would realise. In fact it could be happening in your neighbourhood and whilst you may think there is nothing wrong, the circumstances of how some persons are employed may indicate that they are in fact victims of modern day slavery. Invariably these victims have been forced or coerced into carrying out employment for little or no reward, in payment for a family debt or smuggling them into the UK.

Many victims are controlled through fear and violence and are frightened to speak out for fear of repercussions.

 The following are indicators that may indicate that a person or persons are at risk:

 the worker being given no information, or false information, about the law and their employment rights,

 excessive working hours being imposed by the employer,

 hazardous working conditions being imposed by the employer,

 unwarranted and perhaps unexplained deductions from wages,

 the employer not paying the full tax or national insurance contributions for the worker,
the absence of any formal or implied contract of employment,

 poor accommodation provided by the employer,

 poor or misleading information having been given about the nature of the employment,
the person being isolated from contact with others,

 money having been exchanged with other employers/traffickers etc for the person's services in an arrangement which has not been agreed with the person concerned or which is not reflected in their remuneration.

 If you know of anyone who is scared to speak out and may be subjected to any of the above list, then please contact Essex Police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers UK. In the event of an emergency always call 999. Your information will be treated in the upmost confidence.

I am investigating 17 reported criminal damages to motor vehicles that occurred over the last two weekends, mainly between 03:00 hours to 06:00 hours on Sunday mornings . 15 of these occurred in the Rochford / Ashingdon areas and a further two in the Hockley area.

In almost all cases the damage has been caused by golf balls being thrown through the front or rear windscreens.

Two mopeds have been seen at several of these offences.

If you witnessed any of these offences, or have CCTV showing suspicious activity by persons on mopeds in the area around these times, know who the persons responsible are or have any other information in relation to these offences please email steve.judd@essex.pnn.police.uk with your details and I will contact you to discuss.

Police have received a report of suspected Rogue Trader activity in the Hockley area. On 14th October a local elderly resident has been approached by a tree surgeon company who have carried out work. The resident has then withdrawn a large amount of cash to pay the workmen, after they escorted the resident to the Bank. The workmen have stated they will return in a week to carry out further work.

A reputable company will not conduct their business in this manner, they will be accredited with the local authority, be registered with companies house and will not target elderly or vulnerable persons.

There are a number of things that you can do to protect yourself and elderly family members:

 Teach good doorstep behaviour:

 Do not leave doors unlocked

 Do not leave keys in unsafe places (door mat / pot plant)

 Put on door chain or door bar first before speaking to the caller

 Do not allow persons into your property without express permission
(check ID cards / look up the phone number to verify identity, do not
use the number on the card as it may be fake).

 Do not keep large amounts of cash at home, or keep a cheque book and card together

 Keep items of great sentimental value out of sight. Mark property, keep photographic and detailed records of valuables. This also applies to bank statements, passports and utility bills (ID theft).

As a carer for an elderly person (family or care professional) encourage the person you care for to have a list of useful phone numbers close to the telephone or pre-programme the numbers using quick dial.

Ask if anything unusual has happened since your last visit, assist the Police by keeping an eye out and reporting any suspicious people, activities or vehicles in the area.
Rogue traders are people who call at your door pretending to be qualified tradespeople and offering to do work on your home. They may seem friendly and persuasive but too often they target vulnerable elderly people and carry out poor quality household repairs to roofs and driveways
They may claim to know your neighbours and have done work for them but often the work they promise to complete didn't need doing in the first place.
We're working with Essex County Council and Age UK Essex as part of a campaign to warn residents to 'Be Sure at the Door'.
You decide whether you need any work done to our house, not them.
If you think you've been taken in by a rogue trader, please let us know by calling 101, contact Trading Standards on 08454 040 506 or talk to a friend or relative.

The Essex Safeguarding Children Board understands the importance of listening to you.
Educating children and providing support and information to parents are considered the most important ways of preventing child sexual exploitation. Understanding healthy relationships, knowing how to report things when things don’t feel right, and keeping children safe online, are all crucial in helping to tackle child sexual exploitation. Your views, as parents, will help us develop greater awareness of the importance of child sexual exploitation and staying safe online.
What you tell us will be combined with the views of other parents and will be reported anonymously. This is a confidential questionnaire for you to share your views openly and honestly.
This questionnaire is designed for parents of children of all ages. If your child is in primary age education, you may feel that some of the questions are not relevant to you, so please answer each question as you see fit. You can skip any questions you do not wish to answer.
At the end of the survey there are links to sources of information, advice and guidance for parents.
