A Neighbourhood Watch special

Calling all Bee-Keepers - July 2014
(Return to Neighbourhood Watch Front Page)

In the unlikely event any of you have a beehive ( but you may have a friend who does) please see the following:

Calling all Beekeepers - Protect your Hives against Theft

Rochford District Neighbourhood Watch is offering free electronic microchips to beekeepers to help protect their hives against theft. There have been a number of reports of the theft of hives throughout East Anglia this year - although at the time of writing none have been from South East Essex.

Now the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) is urging beekeepers to get their hives micro-chipped so police can identify them if they are stolen. BBKA press officer Gill Maclean added: "It is currently estimated that there are 250,000 managed colonies owned by beekeepers in England and Wales.”

If you would like to take advantage of this initiative, please contact Rochford District Neighbourhood Watch, Rayleigh Police Station, High Street, Rayleigh SS6 7QB, phone 01268 770519 or email NHWRayleigh@gmail.com
