Introducing Rochford District Council’s new Chairman
Councillor Mrs Barbara Wilkins is the new Chairman of Rochford District Council after being elected at the Annual Council meeting on Tuesday 21 May.
The new Vice-Chairman of the Council is Councillor Mrs June Lumley, who will assist Councillor Mrs Wilkins during her term.
Councillor Mrs Wilkins is a District Councillor for Foulness and Great Wakering Ward and has lived in the Rochford District for 45 years.
She has been a District Councillor for 11 years and a Parish Councillor for Great Wakering since 1986. She is a mother to one son and four daughters and a proud grandmother to six grandchildren.
Councillor Mrs Wilkins has worked within a children’s pre-school environment all her adult life and continues to do so and thoroughly enjoys going into work everyday.

Following her election, the new Chairman of Rochford District Council, Councillor Mrs Wilkins said: “I am very proud to be selected for this role by my fellow councillors. I’m really looking forward to a busy year ahead of me and meeting so many people in the District, I would very much like to visit as many schools and various organisations within the District as possible and look forward to receiving your invitations.”
The Chairman also announced that, during her year in office, she will be raising money for The Ryan Tolley Leukaemia Trust Fund, South Essex Youth Symphony Orchestra and the local Multiple Sclerosis Society.
