Interview with Lynn of “Coffee Corner”  (27th October 2010)
Lynn & Jackie run Coffee Corner  at the top of South Street, Rochford. We dropped in on them for a quick interview shortly after opening and watched as, one by one, three ‘regulars’ came in and were greeted. Orders didn’t need to be taken but were soon provided. There was a warm, friendly and intimate atmosphere in the Coffee Corner. I suppose it should accurately be called a ‘cafe’ but it doesn’t have that feel; the old world building really doesn’t allow you to feel that is what it is. It is something more!

Rochford Life:  How long have you been here?
Lynn: The shop has been here for nine years now.

RL:  What are your opening times?
Lynn: From 9ish in the morning until about half three, but if we’ve had a quiet day we tend to close early. We are shut on Monday. On a Saturday we’re open from 9.30 until 3.00. (Later in the day we checked them out and at 3.15pm they were still going strong after a hectic day!  This wasn’t going to be an early closing day!!!!)

RL:  How would you describe the food you provide?
Lynn: We do snacks really: toasted sandwiches, regular sandwiches, jacket potatoes, scrambled eggs, beans on toast, tortilla wraps, bagels, ciabatta, toasted fruit loaf, tea cakes. We usually have home-made cakes but our lady who does them is off and so we buy cakes in at the moment.

RL:  You do a range of coffees?
Lynn: Coffees are all based on Espresso coffee and we expand on that so we have cappuccinos, mochas, etc., Filter coffees, espresso, it’s all one coffee; we don’t do a range of coffee beans but we do decaff as well. Teas we also do with lots of different fruit teas available as well as ordinary teas.

RL:  You are quite small?
Lynn: Yes, we have just seventeen covers, four outside. We do have a lot of regulars but this week being part of the Rochford Art Trail, we have had more people in. It’s a place where people can come and meet and chat with others, because even if we’re not available, there is always someone to talk to here.

RL:  Lynn, thank you very much for your time. The coffee is good!
