An independent family business with offices also in Southchurch and Eastwood. For warm and understanding help come and speak to Dawn Silk We hope the following information may be helpful:

About Us ...

F. P. Guiver & Sons Ltd was established around 1900 by Frederick Parker Guiver, and remains one of the few family owned Independent Funeral Directors in the Southend on Sea Borough.

We have been at 641 Southchurch Road, Southend on Sea, SS1 2PN since the late 1920's, generating a wealth of experience in local knowledge and traditions. In recent times we have been privileged to extend our services to a wider community and have such taken the decision to make ourselves more accessible by opening an additional office with a full range of services available at 416 Rayleigh Road, Eastwood, Leigh on Sea, SS9 5PT, as well as the above office.

Being independent gives us the flexibility to give a more personal and bespoke service arranging funerals of all religious denominations or nonreligious funerals.

F. P. Guiver & Sons are long standing members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors and adhere to both Codes of Practice.

We also offer Golden Charter Funeral Plans which have proven to be a great help to bereaved families in their time of need. Please request a free brochure without obligation.

When Death Occurs ...

An Expected Death

If the death was expected the Doctor who was treating the deceased should be contacted immediately. If the Doctor can certify the cause of death, he will issue a Medical Certificate giving the cause of death, which will have to be taken to the Registrar of Births and Deaths (by appointment only.) When the doctor has confirmed death has taken place, you should contact us to arrange conveyance of the deceased to our Chapel of Rest.

An Unexpected or Sudden Death

If the death was unexpected or sudden the first person to be contacted is the Doctor of the deceased. The Doctor will come and confirm that the death has taken place, but will not be able to issue any certificate. The Doctor will have to inform the Coroner. The Coroner will request that the deceased be taken to the nearest Mortuary for a post-mortem to be held to find out the cause of death.

The Coroner may also hold an inquest. The death cannot be registered until the Coroner is satisfied as to the cause of death.

In Hospital

If the death occurs in hospital, the Ward Sister will contact the Next of Kin or representative of the deceased. The deceased will be taken to the Mortuary until arrangements have been made with us to convey the deceased to our Chapel of Rest. The hospital will arrange for the Certificate giving the cause of death to be completed by the Doctor treating the deceased. This certificate will then have to be taken to the Registrar of Births and Deaths (by appointment only.)
