Following two very successful fundraising activities last year, the Rotary Club of Rochford continues to support local organisations with donations, designed to help improve the lives of disabled people in the area.

Proceeds from the Annual Charity Golf Day and Christmas Collections raised over £11,000 and the Club have been busy distributing funds to local causes.

Southend Blind Welfare Organisation

The latest donation is a CCTV reader to the Southend Blind Welfare Organisation in Hamlet Court Road.  The Organisation is the fastest growing local charity assisting blind and visually impaired people in Southend-on-Sea, Rochford and the surrounding district.

Rotary President, Rotarian Jeremy Davenport said, “This is another fine example of the work we do in Rotary to help charitable groups in our local area.”

MS Bowls Society

The President of Rochford Rotary Club and rookie bowls player, Jeremy Davenport, tries his hand at bowling at an MS Society’s Wednesday afternoon short mat bowling session using the recently donated sports wheelchair.

The £450 specialised wheelchair was donated by the Rotary Club with collections from the public during the Club’s Christmas collections at local stores and around the streets of Rochford and its surrounding areas.

Spokesman for the MS Bowls Group, Ian Copland, said: “We are very pleased to have the buggy (wheelchair) as it helps members of the Group to have a great time.  They are getting very good at the game and are challenging local bowls clubs to friendly matches.”
