We invited Emma to talk about the shop:
Emma: Miss Daisy has been here for eighteen years but we’ve had it for eleven years. We obviously keep all kinds of cards, but lots of other things as well: wool, haberdashery, silk flowers, balloons, a gift wrapping service and, as we said, cards of all sorts and for all ages and for all occasions.
We did go through a period where there were few Christenings, but they’re back in vogue now, so we have cards for Christenings, Weddings, Engagements, Anniversaries and of course birthdays. Then there are Mothers Day and Fathers Day, Easter Cards and Christmas cards. We have cards from 40p right through to £6. We have some handmade ones here by a company we use.
We get people coming from all over. If they come down from Norfolk or Suffolk they call in. They don’t come down specifically but if they are coming down they make a point of coming in. But they do come over from Leigh, Westcliff, Hadleigh and Thundersley, and places like that to get cards here. We’ve also got a lady who comes down from Chelmsford for the flowers.
Upstairs we have wool and the flowers, and quite often people don’t realise we have upstairs as well.
Others come in on different days to help run the shop.
