Your Community Needs You

We recently talked with the team at Neighbourhood Watch and they told us that Rochford had very few neighbourhood coordinators  and we wondered if you might like to change that. In case you are not sure about who or what Neighbourhood Watch coordinators are, here are some basics:

What exactly is a NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH?
Well for a start let's make it quite clear - IT IS NOT A VIGILANTE GROUP

The aims of a Neighbourhood Watch Group are:
1. To reduce local opportunities for crime by deterring would-be thieves and vandals.
2. To establish a community spirit so that everyone can contribute in the protection of their property by mutual co-operation and communication.
3. To inform the police or the liaison persons of any suspicious activity.
4. To make everyone more aware of local crime problems and more security conscious about their own homes.

What's in it for me?
The successful operation of a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in our area would soon/have obvious advantages:

1. Crimes such as burglary, vandalism and thefts of and from cars should be reduced.
2. A better community spirit can be created.
3. Suspicious persons and incidents can be quickly reported to the police.
4. Crime prevention advice can be quickly and efficiently circulated throughout our community.
5. The use of Property Marking Kit to Postcode all valuable property in our homes, and expert advice on how to use it.
6. Information about local criminal activity can be easily circulated to all members, so that everyone is aware of what exactly is going on around us.

IN SHORT, THE FORMATION OF A NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH GROUP WILL LEAD TO A GREATER SHARED AWARENESS OF LOCAL PROBLEMS AND A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRACTICAL STEPS THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO TACKLE THEM.

What does a volunteer coordinators do:

All we ask of you is to
Ÿ
deliver our newsletter to your members usually 4 times a year and
Ÿ
take the odd phone call from us if and
Ÿ
when there is an incident in your road/street just to advise you of what has happened.
Ÿ
Ideally you would pass this on to all your members but this may not be possible if you have a large number.
Ÿ
What we suggest is to tell your immediate neighbour(s) and ask them to pass the message on.
Ÿ
Some coordinators have regular meetings but this is entirely their choice we only ask the minimum as above and anything extra is a bonus. It does not have to be onerous.
