Run by Rochford Community Church the shop has new books for children, new toys, gifts for all ages and paintings from local artists.
Leader, David Clayton, says, “The aim behind the shop is to support and provide help for the community. We are not a charity shop, it is a commercial venture selling new items. We also have other rooms here which we are planning to use for a range of activities that we hope will be useful to the local community. Any money we make in the shop will be used to help the community.
The sort of activities that we are developing include a jobs club, money management help, craft groups, story telling for children and bereavement support. They are likely to start in the Autumn and we’ll put information in the window as we progress. If people have any thoughts on what would help the community, we’d invite them to either drop in and tell us or call us on the above number.”

At the opening on the 23rd June, local Southend children’s author, Marc Grimston, read from his new book, “Zio the Hero” which, he suggests, is probably for 7 year olds and upwards, a medieval fantasy, based on two real castles in Suffolk. “It’s dark in places,” he said, “but funny in other places.” It’s available in the shop.
