ANOTHER RECORD YEAR FOR ROTARY CLUB OF ROCHFORD CHRISTMAS COLLECTIONS

The Rotary Club of Rochford enjoyed another record year for its Christmas charity collections thanks to the continuing generosity of local people.

A total of £9,104.86 was collected in the streets of Ashingdon, Canewdon, Hawkwell, Hockley and Rochford and at static collections at B & Q, Fossetts Way, the Co-op in Rochford, the Factory Shop on Purdeys Industrial Estate, Sainbury’s at Rayleigh Weir, Tesco, Prince Avenue and the ‘Santa Flights’ at Southend Airport.  The Club also assisted at the switch-on of the Christmas lights in Hockley and Rochford.  The total amount collected was 1% higher than the previous record achieved last year.

The Club will be using the money raised to help many voluntary groups in the Rochford area.

Rotary President, Rotarian Graham Jackson said, “It was yet another fantastic response by the people in our area.  As always, the street collections proved very popular, with Santa and his Snowmen giving youngsters, and the not-so-young, an early taste of Christmas.  We are also very grateful to Southend Airport, B & Q, the Co-op, the Factory Shop, Sainsbury’s and Tesco, for allowing us to use their premises.  The record amount of money collected will be used to help those less fortunate than ourselves in our local community.  Our Club continues to seek new members who can spend an hour or two on Monday lunchtimes at Rochford Hundred Golf Club.
