We had a really successful day for our Grand Opening of the 4th Rochford Scout Group's Hall Extension & 60th “Diamond” Anniversary Celebrations (1957-2017) where everyone was greeted with a glass of bubbly & a special 4th Rochford Cupcake

Everyone has worked so hard over the last 4 years, fundraising for the £92,000 needed to get the project completed.

We now have a large porch/waiting area for parents, plus much needed decent toilets & a wheelchair accessible shower room. We have one young Cub in a wheelchair, who in the past needed carrying into the toilets, but will now be able to access them for himself. We will also be able to encourage disabled Leaders & Volunteers to join the Group now that the facilities are accessible to them.

It was absolutely wonderful that so many people turned out to enjoy the day, along with local dignitaries, sponsors & former Leaders of the Group!

Lovely to see Derek Tyrrell, who was Group Scout Leader in the 1970s, John Howard GSL in the 1980s - 2010 (and who the Hall is named after), Colin Stops (former Scout Leader) & Nigel Howe (former Cub Leader).

Cllr. Mrs Lesley Butcher, current Chairman of Rochford District Council, officially opened the new extension by cutting the ribbon, looked on by over 100 guests. She was accompanied by the Vice Chairman of RDC, Cllr. Mr David Merrick & Cllr. Mr George Ioannou from Roche North.   Former Chairman of RDC, Heather Glynn presented the Group with a beautiful new clock.

Members of the Rochford Rotary Club attended too, as they have been very generous with donations over the last 4 years. The current President, Mr Alan Harvey OBE was accompanied by Mr Nigel Williams & also Mr David Cottis.

4th Rochford Group Scout Leader, Bill Neobard has worked tirelessly writing to various Charities & Trusts to gain Donations for this massive project and it was lovely to see all of his and everybody else’s hard work with fundraising, has finally paid off!

Bill presented a “Scout Camp” novelty cake to former GSL, John Howard, who ironically won it in a Raffle!

It was an absolutely perfect Summer's day and much fun in the sun was had by all, as the children from Beavers, Cubs & Scouts ran the side stalls, while guests enjoyed Afternoon Tea and/or a BBQ!
