For an excellent time out with the young family, Tropical Wings Zoo has developed over the years so that not only is there a cafe, a shop and an amazing  tropical butterfly house, but there is a zoo area that we found seemed to go on and on, with animals and birds and outdoor play areas and children’s activity areas, to keep the younger members of the family entertained, possibly for most of the day!

We would suggest that this is one of the high-value days out here in South-East Essex which provides both fun, entertainment, activities and education for your family. We can thoroughly recommend it; as you will see from the map below there is lots to see and do!
By today’s standards these are excellent prices (we would guess that you are likely to be in there for anything between three to six hours [or longer], so plan accordingly).  The shop has lots of fun things and the  cafe has a wide menu for all the family at good prices.

We arrived shortly before a rush in the cafe and were surprised at the speed at which orders were dealt with. Waiting time, in our experience, was minimal. Very impressive.  
The tropical house for the butterflies is excellent. Catch it on a sunny, warm day and butterflies (that you won’t find flying around your garden, as you’ll see below) will be flying all around you. The two above are large but masters of disguise (and there are lots of them!)
Throughout your Tropical Wings experience, you will find frequent educational aids: explanatory boards, as in the butterfly house, question boards as above out in the zoo, description and information boards with every cage or enclosure.
