easyJet launches new route to Murcia, Spain from London Southend Airport

Sixteen destinations now offered by easyJet next summer with the launch of twice weekly flight

easyJet has today announced it will operate a new route to Murcia in Southern Spain from London Southend Airport.  The new route will operate twice a week throughout next summer, with the first flight taking off on 27 April 2017.

easyJet is expected to fly 16,000 passengers a year between the airport and Murcia which sits on the Iberian Peninsula and boasts a climate with hot summers and very little rainfall making for an ideal summer holiday destination and complementing its existing line-up of destinations from London Southend Airport.

Neil Slaven, UK Commercial Manager at easyJet, said “We’re delighted to be adding Murcia to easyJet’s range of destinations from London Southend Airport and provides our passengers another summer holiday destination from the airport. We have seen strong growth from the airport over recent months, further strengthening our already comprehensive European flight network. It also highlights our commitment to providing affordable routes for both leisure and business passengers from the airport and we’re sure this Spanish favourite will prove extremely popular.”

Glyn Jones, CEO Stobart Aviation that owns and operates London Southend Airport, said “We are delighted that easyJet is offering another route from London Southend and are sure that Murcia will prove very popular with passengers from Essex and the South East. With excellent access, including our own station, trains to and from London in 45 minutes, unique customer service and now even more fantastic destinations - it's no surprise that more and more people are choosing London Southend."

If it's a true slice of Spain you're after, then look no further than the city of Murcia - or the 'Baroque capital of Spain' as it is commonly called. Both the city and its region have somehow managed to remain untouched by large-scale tourism. Add to this some 250 kilometres of beautiful and unspoilt coastline, a year round average temperature of 17 degrees and more than 3,000 hours of sun a year and you have a perfect holiday destination. So what's the catch? Well there isn't one, unless of course you don't like the idea of travelling to a region full of mountains, rivers, orchards, traditional towns and stunning desert.

Tickets are on sale now at www.easyjet.com, costing from £33.49 one-way.
