Be Green in 2015
31/12/14
With 2015 almost upon us Rochford District Council’s Recycling Team are encouraging residents to think green and ‘Recycle Right’ when making their New Years resolutions.
Every year lots of incorrect items are placed into the grey recyclables bins, most of which are genuine mistakes, however this does cause problems during the recycling process. Issues such as materials getting caught up in machinery; contamination of other items, resulting in them not being able to be recycled and generally complicating the sorting process.
Common mistakes include:
Food waste – can be recycled via the compostables bins
Textiles/Clothing -
Nappies – should be disposed of in the non-
Black Sacks – Should be disposed of in the non-
Non-
Tissues/wipes – should be disposed of in the non-
By ensuring the correct items are placed into the grey recyclables bin, this ensures that 100% of the material can be recycled, makes the process easier and safer.
Bins that contain wrong items may not be emptied; if you are unsure check first before you put it in the recyclables bin. A full A-

Recomposing your Christmas Tree
5/1/15
As twelfth night falls and Christmas memories fade into the past Rochford District Council are reminding residents that they can recycle their trees buy cutting them up and putting them in their normal compostables bin.
Only real Christmas trees can be composted and all decorations must be removed beforehand. Artificial trees should be reused if possible or taken to the Castle Road Recycling Centre in Rayleigh.
Rochford District Council’s Head of Environment, Richard Evans said: "We want as many of our residents as possible to recycle their Christmas trees so we've tried to make it as easy as possible. We already know our residents are fantastic recyclers and we hope they will join us by going green in 2015 and helping us to compost their trees."
