Rochford Scouts - September 2015 (1)

(Becoming Dementia Friends / Peace Place @ Regatta)

Organisations 4th Rochford Scouts

4th Rochford Scouts become Dementia Friends!!!

16th September 2015

The Scouts had a Meeting with a difference on 16th September when their guest was Dan Lawrence from the Peaceful Place Day Centre in Dalys Road, Rochford.
He told the Scouts about their Members with Young Onset Dementia, who are only aged between 40 - 65 years old and how it can affect any family at any time. (It is not just a very old person's disease!)
The kids played "Dementia Bingo" & also a perception game where they had to try and work out the everyday tasks that a Dementia Sufferer can or can't do!
Some very intelligent questions were asked & answered, so well done to them all !!!
All the kids there agreed to become Dementia Friends, which was a tv campaign set up by the Alzheimer's Society last year, involving Celebrities that have all been touched by Dementia in one way or another in their lives.

Here's a link to the campaign:  https://www.dementiafriends.org.uk/

The Scouts were all given special badges to wear and also Peaceful Place Pens!
A very successful evening and the start of a great Community partnership with Peaceful Place.

4th Rochford Scouts help Peaceful Place at Leigh Regatta!!!

20th September 2015

The sun was shining and it was a perfect day down at Old Leigh for the Regatta!

The Scouts were a big hit and had great fun, helping the Peaceful Place Charity with their fundraising!

The "Lucky Dip" & "Hook-a-Duck" stall was so popular that more prizes had to be bought near the end of the day!!!

A massive "thank you" to Asda (Shoeburyness) & Tesco Extra (Southend) for their really generous donations of toys too!

This new Community Partnership between the 4th Rochford Group and Peaceful Place will help the Scouts gain their Community Awards and also give the Charity much needed help, raising awareness of Young Onset Dementia and fundraising for their Day Centre in Rochford. Here are links to their Website & Facebook Page:
