Our hope on these pages is to invite a number of people who form the Parish Council to have their say and tell us who they are and what they do  to open up understanding of just what happens in local government. To see them go to the Parish Council web site.

Janice Rigby, the Parish Clerk,  is an enthusiast and loves Rochford.  Before you read this article, what is your picture of a “Parish Clerk”?  We think we’re about to demolish the stereotype that many of us have.  We hope you will find it enlightening.  We started with Janice because she is at the heart of the workings of the Council. Click on her photo to go to our interview with her.
Another enthusiast for Rochford is Parish and District Councillor Heather Glynn who chairs the General Purposes Committee of the Parish Council. To see our interview with her please just click on her picture. As we have stated in our objectives, it is our intent to first ‘reveal’ the person and then through them their activities and the workings of the life of Rochford. Heather is someone who is clearly all-out to help and serve the people of Rochford.
Another person who is very active on the Parish Council is Councillor Anne Simpkin who chairs the  St. Marks Management Committee. Despite being well into retirement, Anne is a hands-on person who just loves to get involved in doing and helping out, especially in respect of St. Marks Hall. Read her interview and be amazed at yet another of these people who serve us so ably in the community.

Part of a husband and wife partnership on the Parish Council is Councillor Sandy Gordon who is vice-chair of the Planning Committee. Sandy, you’ll see, fed up with not understanding the many phone calls she received on behalf of husband, Keith, determined she should change this. Thus she is now an active councillor in her own right and is just as much there for people and has entered on a massive learning curve.
To describe Councillor Keith Gordon as very active on the Parish and District Councils would be a gross understatement. Keith has been around for a number of years and has all the answers! As I said to him, I’m sure he can’t be this good, but Keith conveys a man sold out to serving the community on both councils, a man available for whoever wants to come and ask questions.

Without at least  one report of a meeting of the Rochford Parish Council, our attempts to bring the people and workings of the Council to the attention of our readers would fall short. Here therefore is a brief and informal report from an outside observer of the Meeting of Rochford Parish Council on Wednesday 6th October 2010 in the Parish Rooms. An interesting meeting, Not everyone’s cup of tea, but we found it interesting. Click on picture.
