4th Rochford Scout Group Family Camp at Thriftwood!!!
3rd to 5th July 2015
The Family Camp enabled Parents of the 12 Beavers, 4 Cubs & 5 Scouts to have a fun weekend away with their kids at the Thriftwood Activity Centre & Campsite at Brentwood!!!
The fantastic weather was perfect for them to take part in what they liked or to just chill out! The programme of events was based around a theme of Pirates!
After pitching tents and settling into camp, everyone enjoyed a Chinese Takeaway or Fish n Chips, before getting to know each other around the camp fire! The kids loved getting close to the flames to toast Marshmallows!
A dramatic storm on the first night meant there were a few tired adults & kids the next day, but they were still up early to heartily tuck into cereals, croissants & bacon rolls for breakfast!!!
This set everyone up nicely for Raft Building down by the lake! The Scouts & Leaders were on hand to help the kids (and adults!) with their knot tying skills!!! A wonderful achievement to see 4 Rafts launched onto the lake!!!
After a Ploughmans Buffet Lunch & Fruit Pots, everyone was suitably refreshed to begin the afternoon of fun quests, where activities needed skill, brain power & strength!
The Pirates (Beavers & Cubs) needed to defend their Island against the attack of the Navy (the Scouts)!!! Completing the final 2 quests led the the Pirates to their weapons (water pistols) to help them in their defence!!!
The final water fight battle was much needed, as temperatures soared to 25 degrees Celsius
The day concluded with a delicious BBQ cooked by some of the Dads, then a fun evening around the Camp Fire, where everyone joined in singing all the popular Scout songs!!!
Toasted Marshmallows were on the menu again too!!!
Unfortunately, the heavens opened up after breakfast on the final morning as everyone was trying to pack up! But, all in all, a fabulous weekend was had by kids & adults alike!!!
