4th Rochford Scouts Easter Fun at the Peaceful Place!!!

29th March 2016

The 4th Rochford Scout Group has a Community Partnership with the Peaceful Place Charity and as part of their “Million Hands Project”, 10 Scouts went along to the Day Centre in Dalys Road, Rochford to help make Easter decorations with the Members, who have Young Onset Dementia.

(Most of the Scouts who went along, became “Dementia Friends” last year when Peaceful Place went along to the Scout Hall for the evening to do a presentation and play interactive games & quizzes!)

The kids showed such patience and kindness to the Members, whilst helping them decorate and paint Easter Eggs and to make nests for mini eggs! There was a lot of fun and laughter seeing who could get into the worst mess with the glue!!! (That was actually me!!!)

The glitter got into every possible nook and cranny too!!!

The Scouts & Members all coming together like this really makes a difference. It gives the Scouts so much confidence and lets them see that there is nothing to be afraid of meeting people with Dementia and the Members love chatting and interacting with the youngsters. One Member told us that as a young boy he went to the World Scout Jamboree in Idaho in 1967 and had to do lots of “Bob-a-Jobs” to raise the money himself!
