Roche Art Group
Annual Exhibition
- October 2012
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY
- EXHIBITION 27 OCTOBER 2012

The Group once again held their annual exhibition at the excellent facilities at St Teresa’s Church Hall, Ashingdon Road, Rochford. As last year the event was held on the first day of the Rochford Art Trail that took place from 27 October to 3 November.

Having expanded their membership considerably over the last year, a number of members eagerly anticipated exhibiting for the first time.

Member John Cowley again masterminded the format of the exhibition. Although the main focus was the display of paintings ably set out by two experienced members, there was also an area set aside for members to demonstrate their artistic skills. Visitors were encouraged to have a go at painting themselves and this proved most popular with the younger visitors. Other attractions were a table laden with prizes for the tombola as well as sale of books etc, and of course refreshments were available all day. A "bargain corner" was also set out where members exhibited paintings at very reasonable prices.

Once again the Group was delighted to invite Year 6 of St Teresa’s Primary School to take part in a drawing competition with the theme this year of "Something New". An encouraging number of very good entries were received with an excellent drawing being chosen as the winning entry as well as 5 other paintings viewed as "highly commended". All entries received a critique by a qualified primary school teacher with a keen interest in art. This competition proves very popular and the Group was delighted that the artist of the winning entry was able to visit the exhibition with her family.

Linking the exhibition with the Rochford Art Trail once again ensured additional advertising and despite fewer visitors this year – it was a bitterly cold wet day unfortunately - the Group was delighted that many paintings were sold. On a further positive note, a few enquiries for membership were received. In all, a most enjoyable and successful exhibition with a good deal of thought and preparation being well rewarded.

The Group wishes to thank all visitors for their interest in attending and to all who support them in various media publications throughout the year.
