People: Bob Pointer - Body Language Learning
RL: Bob, what have you been doing since we last met?
Bob: Yes, I managed the Rochford Disability Football Academy but since that time I became a District Councillor but after serving for two years have now stood down so I can concentrate on another local project called Body Language Learning
RL: How did you move into that?
Bob: Well, I am a former Police Officer and since retiring from that had a successful career as a corporate freelance training consultant in the areas of regulation, compliance, investigation and interviewing. I firmly believe in continuing professional development and as well as Post Graduate Certificate in Education I have gained awards in Body Language, Neuro-Linguistic Programme and identifying expression and emotion.
RL: So what does Body Language Learning entail?
Bob: This involves providing training to individuals and organisations on how to identify ‘truth and credibility' in all of their relationships through the use of various means, what I call a multi channel approach. I have a socially aware business model which targets the type of organisations who would not normally be able to access such training at corporate rates.
RL: So you’ve already been doing this?
Bob: Oh yes, I have recently provided a free session for Essex Dementia Care and an expenses only 1 day course for Futures for Children (Social workers and Foster parents). My next free session will be for Southend and Rochford school nurses. To support such activities I intend to run minimum rate open access sessions.
RL: So this is really developing?
Bob: Yes, I am holding an open access 1 day event at the Holiday Inn at Southend Airport on Saturday 11th May . For this type of session in my corporate life I would probably charge between £150 to £200 per person but am charging £60 per person all of the profits from this will be used to grow the business. In addition to this session I am hosting a free online webinar entitled 'Truth and Credibility' at 8pm on Thursday 18th April where I will examine what and how people lie and undertake analysis video analysis of Bill Clinton, Lance Armstrong and others.
RL: Are you doing this on your own?
Bob: No, my business model includes drawing my 'staff' from the local community. I already have two young people working with me on an ‘as needed’ basis. My thinking is, as well as providing valuable work experience, exposure to the important life skills of effective communication can only but add value to their education.
RL: Your video clip suggests you use multi-media?
Bob: Yes, I use an interactive system and have spent a lot of time capturing conversations with volunteers and paid actors to build up an extensive library of video and audio clips to support my delivery and am currently working on developing an on line affordable virtual learning environment to support the delivery of our product.
