Fifty eight members of the TR Register East Saxons Group gathered together at The
Lawn, Rochford on Sunday 27 July to celebrate their club's 10th anniversary. The
Lawn provided the perfect backdrop to display some of the Essex-based members' Triumph
TRs and the excellent venue provided a sumptuous lunch with all the trimmings. A
splendid time was had by all.
The East Saxons Group is a local arm of the national TR Register club which lends
support to Triumph TR classic car owners worldwide and encourages the preservation
of the Triumph TR Marque. The TR Register HQ allowed the loan of a very special car
- TS2 - in order that it could appear as the 'guest of honour' at the lunch.
TS2 is the first-ever right-hand drive production Triumph TR, completed alongside
its left-hand drive sister car TS1 at Standard Triumph's Banner Lane, Coventry plant
some 61 years ago in July 1953. The car spent its early life in Ireland but returned
in a somewhat poor state to the Coventry area in 1976 when it was purchased by Keith
Reid, motoring correspondent for the Coventry Evening Telegraph. Unable to complete
the restoration of the car, he donated it to the TR Register and finally it was made
ready in time for the Classic Motor Show at the NEC in April 2001. This beautiful
old classic was driven from it's current home in Oxfordshire to line up with other
TR models belonging to individual members in the group.
The East Saxons Group was formed in late 2003/ early 2004 to accommodate the needs
of an ever-growing TR Register family, and membership has increased considerably
from small beginnings to around 100 members currently.
If you already own a TR or are thinking of investing in one of these classic cars,
East Saxons meet on 3 evenings each month at venues around Essex - full details of
locations and more information on the group may be found on their website www.eastsaxons.com"
