A Gathering from Abroad (14th July 2012)

The idea of meeting up with fellow Asians started a few years ago when a few of us wanted to celebrate Chinese New Year together. According to the Lunar Calendar, Chinese New Year often falls around January or February which happens to be a cold time of the year. After several gatherings, I decided that if we were to meet once a year, why not meet when the weather was good?
Well, last night we had our gathering on a wet and cold day! Most of us hail from Malaysia and Singapore.
24 of us attended the gathering at Ashingdon United Free Church, several were away so missed the event. It took a bit of organising by E-mails or by phone. Everyone brought a savoury dish or a dessert, some brought drinks as well.
The place was set up ready for the 6pm event. Food was plentiful and many friendships either made or renewed. This is an excellent way of keeping up with each other as we all lead rather busy lives. Most of us Nurses had come to UK for training and have stayed on either to work or have settled down here with our families.
Many were exchanging contact details and I sincerely hope that wonderful friendships were forged or renewed. We need each other's support as we are so far away from our original homes. We look forward to next year's gathering.
