Rochford Allotment Association
Spring has sprung......
(May 25th 2013)

May 25th 2013 was the Allotment Association’s Spring Plant & Produce Sale. This Spring has, we are told, been the coldest for over 35 years. Pundits speculate that ‘Spring’ is a month to two months behind. That didn’t stop quite a bit of produce appearing on the tables that morning and there is a reasonable amount of produce growing well around the allotments. However, we are aware that with programmes such as Gardeners World etc. gardening sometimes takes on a bit of a glamorous feel, and so instead we decided to celebrate Spring with a less than glamorous picture parade of the allotments at this time of the year after such a bad winter. The message is that although we would always encourage you to get out there, if you can, with a spade and enjoy one of the best forms of therapy going, gardening is often just hard work, and patience and perseverance is the name of the game. Anyway, here is Spring 2013 in a not so glamorous light:
How unglamorous are compost bins and  yet here may be the secret to quality growth in the year ahead!
Piles of rubbish... waiting... rotting... a necessary evil.... unglamorous.. the result of back-breaking work.... Yes!
Some people have been hard at work. There are growers and buyers and there are buyers who become growers.
These tables didn’t just happen...  So how did they get here?
Every allotment has a tale to tell. This IS an allotment but it suggests someone’s life has gone on hold, while along the way....
...nature refuses to pause when we have to pause and suddenly it’s gone over... and all that effort to sow and nurture these....
... but you’ve got to start somewhere and that means effort, but how satisfying when it starts looking clean and ready for the coming year...
....work, effort, aching backs, but an end in sight.... clearance, ready, steady, grow!
....and finally... for those who know about these things... you know... every man (and woman) .... needs a shed!

Enjoy the Spring-into-Summer!
