Meet Sophie Riches

Congratulations on being selected as a Torchbearer, how does it feel?
Thank you, I am very excited to be a Torchbearer and I feel very privileged to be selected.

Can you tell us about the selection process, how did you get involved?
I was nominated through my school, The FitzWimarc School in Rayleigh. They nominated me because I performed well in previous athletic meets when I represented them.

What do you think the highlight will be carrying the Torch through Rayleigh?
I think the highlight carrying the Torch through Rayleigh is that I will be running through my home town and so all of my friends and family can watch.

What are you most looking forward to at the 2012 Games - apart from the Torch Relay of course!
I am really looking forward to the London Olympic Games because I have an interest in sport and the Games are a famous event which is being held in our home country.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself, and what you like about Rayleigh?
I am sixteen years old and I am an upcoming athlete. Last July, I represented Great Britain at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Turkey. I like Rayleigh because I have grown up here and so it is my home.
