Burying a Time Capsule
Wednesday 27th November 2013

The parents and children  gather in the hall where deputy head teacher Ms Brown explains to the parents what the children have been doing. Starting from ‘the big question’, “What does the future hold?” the children had been encouraged to think what questions arise and the curriculum was built around those questions. From all this they decided to create the time capsule and think how life would change. Each class produced material to be put in the capsule to be opened on Waterman’s 50th anniversary in 2057

The questions that arise about the future

Ms Brown explains work done

Parents look on .......                                       while volunteers read their contributions about the future

New Chair of Governors, Mike Webb, takes the capsule to be buried in the grounds. It is a grey Autumn day but that doesn’t stop the cameras  coming out to record the event

The school gathers to witness the event

Children help to present the capsule and Ms Brown and Mr. Webb place it into its resting place for the years to come

A time capsule is a historic cache of goods or information, usually intended as a method of communication with future people and to help future archaeologists, anthropologists or historians.

Historians suggest that items which describe the daily lives of the people who created them, such as personal notes, pictures, and documents, would greatly increase the value of the time capsule to future historians.
